Make large PDF files easier to share
Large PDF files can be difficult to upload, email or store. FileMinty gives you several compression levels depending on whether preserving original PDF structure or reducing file size is more important.
Light compression keeps the original document structure intact while rewriting the PDF efficiently. Because it is lossless, the amount saved depends heavily on how the PDF was originally created.
Balanced and Strong compression can reduce image-heavy PDFs more aggressively by rendering each page and rebuilding the document using compressed images.
FAQ
Compress PDF questions
Is FileMinty's PDF compressor free?+
Yes. FileMinty's PDF compressor is free to use and does not require an account or subscription.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?+
No. Compression happens directly inside your browser, so your PDF does not need to be uploaded to FileMinty.
What is the difference between Light, Balanced and Strong?+
Light performs a lossless PDF rewrite and keeps text and vector content intact. Balanced and Strong rebuild each page as a compressed image, allowing greater file size reduction.
Will text stay selectable?+
With Light compression, selectable text remains intact. Balanced and Strong compression rasterize each page, so the visual content remains but text will no longer be selectable or searchable.
Does PDF compression reduce quality?+
Light compression does not intentionally reduce visual quality. Balanced and Strong use image compression, so some quality reduction is possible in exchange for a smaller file.
What happens if compression makes my PDF larger?+
FileMinty compares the result with your original file. If the compressed version is larger, FileMinty keeps the smaller original PDF data instead.
Can I compress password-protected PDFs?+
Password-protected or encrypted PDFs may not be readable. Remove the password first and then try again.
